Student opportunities and activities

At Hamilton South Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our programs may include:

Our extra-curricular highlights

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Music and Band

Through our partnership with the Newcastle University Conservatorium of Music, we offer students the opportunity to learn an instrument, join one of our training, rock or concert bands, or sing along with our choir.

Drama and Dance

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities. In addition to our school concerts held every 3 years, HSPS is a proud participant of Wakakirri Story Dance.

Robotics

Our robotics club provides the opportunity for interested students in Stage 3 to design, build and program Lego robots to compete at local, regional, state and national Robocup events.

Sport

From weekly sport and fitness, PSSA Inter-school sporting competitions, representative pathways from Newcastle to National level, there's opportunity for all.

Chess

Our chess club runs weekly and is coached by Sydney Academy of Chess. Students have the chance to compete in inter-schools chess competitions throughout the year.

Visual Art

A regular part of our timetable, as well as a frequent lunch wellbeing activity. Students can unleash their creativity and create their own masterpieces.

Spelling Bees, ICAS competitions, mathematics olympiads and more!

Clubs and Groups

Gardening, LEGO, Chess, Media, Drama and dance clubs are just a few of the clubs and groups that run at HSPS!

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
